The number of Military specifications and standards are being reduced in number. For many years now the US Government eliminating many MIL Specs. The specification are either canceled with no replacement or replaced by a commercial standard when possible.

What is. A Military Standard is a document written by or for the United States Department of Defense, US DOD. Normally the specification describes the basic function of a part or device, the materials used and the tests the device must pass to be qualified. But, there are additional MIL Standards that define how device testing should be performed.
A MIL-HDBK should never be used as a requirement.
